Christine Christophersen

Christine Christopherson (born 1959, Iwatja language group) The artist's activism in defence of her mother's country in the Kakadu National Park in Australia's Northern Territory is directly integrated with her art. A dream inspired the ten big and impressive oil paintings jointly titled "Living Culture" which explore themes of Kakadu's people and country, of "caring for country" in the face of mining. "Some people dream regularly, for a long time it felt like I slept without dreams. While fighting for my mothers country, I had this very powerful dream. I knew one day, that maybe I would paint this dream. I have not attempted to interpret it. I can only tell you of it because it made me stay in my mothers country and fight the Governments, their agencies and the company"
